| Activites | Legal & General’s core UK business is the provision of a broad range of savings and protection products for individuals. It offers products through major retail channels – independent financial advisers, business partners (including Alliance & Leicester, Barclays, Northern Rock, and the Woolwich) and direct through call centres and the internet. The product range includes term assurance, mortgage protection, household insurance, private medical insurance, saving for retirement, annuities, unit trusts and ISAs. Its corporate business (pensions, group life assurance, and group income protection) complements the individual business, drawing on our key fund management, actuarial and administrative skills. Legal & General Investment Management provides fund management expertise to the Group’s retail and corporate businesses as well as to trustees of pension schemes and other institutional clients. Total funds under management were £146 billion at 30 June 2004 of which pension fund assets exceeded £90 billion, underlining Legal & General’s position as a major UK investment house and a leading provider of index tracking services. Legal & General’s primary focus is on UK business, but the Group has operations in the USA, the Netherlands and France. Some cross-border sales are also made in Germany. Business in the USA is now the country’s second largest brokerage channel writer of term assurance for high net worth customers. Business is transacted through two subsidiaries – Banner Life and William Penn. In the Netherlands, it concentrates on both annual and single premium business for higher income households distributed via independent intermediaries and through banks. L&G; to change external auditor
Legal & General Group has announced its intention to propose the appointment of KPMG as its external auditor for the financial year ending 31 December 2018.
The scheduled change follows a tender process carried out during 2016, as previously announced in the Group’s 2015 Annual Report & Accounts. L&G says this process has ensured that it is in compliance with legislation and has taken into account FRC guidance on best practice, in particular ensuring the independence of potential audit firms.
A resolution to approve the appointment of KPMG will be put to shareholders at the company’s AGM in 2018. KPMG will observe the 2017 audit, to ensure an efficient transition.
A resolution to re-appoint the company’s current auditor, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC), for the financial year ending 31 December 2017, will be put to shareholders at the company’s AGM in 2017.
Legal & General says it acknowledges the strong contribution PwC has delivered as the company’s auditor over its many years of service.
